Piedmont High School’s Rylie Burnett is part of two basketball teams in Oklahoma. Obviously, she is playing for Piedmont during the school year, and she plays for Team Trae Young during the summer. Playing basketball for most of the year takes dedication to the sport and a willingness to compete even when you don’t feel your best. Burnett has proven she is a great player and could one day find herself competing at the next level.

“I would love to play college basketball and get a math-based degree like engineering, data science or something similar,” said Burnett.

One of the perks for playing on a team like Team Trae Young is the exposure you get as a player. Even at Piedmont High School, the scouts are taking notes and making decisions on who they would like to add to their rosters, but with a travel team, the number of eyes watching you play goes up.

“I love how Team Trae Young gets great exposure, has great coaches, and the best collection of players in Oklahoma,” said Burnett. “I enjoy the winning culture and working towards the same goals.”

The same applies to her team at Piedmont. The junior point guard said she loves her teammates and how they compete.

“I like how everyone competes and wants to get better every day,” said Burnett. “I have become more of a scorer this year after playing mainly as a pass-first point guard the last two years.”

As a student-athlete, taking care of things in the classroom is a top priority and for Burnett, the classroom work takes priority.

“My favorite subject is math. I have had a lot of good teachers, but my favorite was Mrs. Garnand,” said Burnett.

Away from school and the travel team, Burnett said she enjoys spending time with family, friends, and her dogs.

Look for Burnett and the Lady Wildcats this season as they have the Weatherford and Newcastle tournaments on the schedule as well as road games against Deer Creek, Moore, Capitol Hill, Putnam City North, and Edmond North. The remaining home games are Mustang, Norman North, and Deer Creek.
