Piedmont High School junior catcher Addyson Brueggen has been around the game for as long as she can remember, and her love for softball took root early. “I started playing softball in kindergarten.” That early start has grown into a central part of her life as a key member of the Lady Wildcats varsity program.

Brueggen said the team’s preparation over the summer helped set the tone for the year as they returned to campus with higher expectations and a stronger sense of identity. “Summer workouts went really well. Coach Black and my softball coaches helped us get stronger, build chemistry, and prepare for the season. Early in the season, I’m seeing a lot of hard work and determination from my teammates. Everyone is competing and pushing each other to be better.”

As a catcher, Brueggen takes pride in the relationships she builds with the pitching staff, and one bond in particular stands out. “Malli, my pitcher, has definitely left an impression on me. Being her catcher, we have built a really strong connection on the field. She has taught me the importance of trust, communication, and always having your teammate’s back. I’m grateful to have someone like her to work with and compete alongside.”

Her long-term goals extend beyond high school, and she views each season as another step toward her future. “After I graduate, I would like to go and play college softball. I’m hoping to continue growing as a person and as an athlete.” Along the way, she has learned how to handle the ups and downs that come with a long season. “One lesson I learned last year is that you can’t let one bad play, or one bad game affect the rest of your season. I’ve learned to stay focused, trust myself and my teammates, and move on to the next play.”

Offensively, Brueggen sees her bat as a strength while still pushing herself to improve. “One of my biggest strengths is hitting. I’m always working on becoming a more well-rounded player, especially improving my offense. I want to keep getting better and contribute to my team in every way I can.” Through it all, she leans on the people closest to her. “My family inspires me the most because they are always there for me and support me in everything I do. They push me to work hard, stay positive, and never give up when things get difficult.”
