Piedmont’s Kai Hatchett – Presented by F&M Bank

Piedmont’s Kai Hatchett

Piedmont High School junior Kai Hatchett embraces the fast decisions and constant movement required of a varsity softball second baseman.

For Hatchett, the position demands both athletic ability and anticipation. Whether covering ground on a hard-hit ball or positioning herself for the next play, she understands the responsibility that comes with playing in the middle of the infield.

“I am a second baseman and the most difficult thing about this position is being able to react fast and move quickly. Being able to cover a lot of ground in such a short amount of time can be difficult at times,” Hatchett said.

Hatchett brings that same team-first mentality to the plate. Rather than focusing only on individual results, she aims to execute whatever role the Lady Wildcats’ coaches need in the moment. Defensively, her knowledge of the game helps her pursue outs and make sound decisions.

“My offensive strength is doing whatever the coaches ask to find any way to put the ball in play. My defensive strength is understanding where I need to be and making any play I can to find an out. I’m working to improve every aspect of my skills because I believe I can always find a way to better myself and help my team,” Hatchett said.

Softball is a year-round commitment for Hatchett. Her parents have remained an important source of encouragement throughout that commitment.

“My biggest inspiration are my parents. They have showed me how important it is to stay confident and just enjoy every second of the game. They have always supported me and I’m very grateful for that,” Hatchett said.

Hatchett also credits former Piedmont players Catie Meyer and Addison Cassady for welcoming her as a freshman and modeling leadership. Looking ahead, she hopes to continue playing softball in college while working toward a career as a pediatric dental hygienist.
