Mayli Whetter – Piedmont High School Volleyball
Volleyball allows Mayli Whetter to lead by example. As a senior at Piedmont High School, she is
a team leader setting the standard for others to look up to. “I love the chance to perform in front
of younger Piedmont volleyball players and hopefully influence them to push themselves to be
their best version and prove that there is always a come-up story for you if you are willing to put
the work in,” she said.
Beyond building the skills needed for her position as a setter, Mayli’s time on the court has
taught her discipline and cooperativeness. “Volleyball is always there for me, and it makes me
feel so free, and it feeds my competitive nature,” she says.

Her favorite accomplishment as a volleyball player so far is qualifying with her club team for the
2024 open nationals in Las Vegas. She represented Oklahoma and placed in a group of the top 36
teams in the nation. “My club coach once told me the only difference between being ordinary or
extraordinary is the little extra you have to put in,” says Mayli.
A teammate who left a big impression is Kaylie Marshall, her former outside hitter. “She took
me under her wing and showed me how a teammate can be a home, and she led by example,”
said Mayli.
Volleyball started just for fun. “I made JV in seventh and eighth grade. I fell in love with it and
decided to play club ball. Fast forward to high school and I have now been a four-year varsity
letter,” she says.
Mayli wants to thank her mom who is her inspiration and her dad. “They are my rocks and my
biggest supporters through and through. I would like to thank my brother and friends for always
believing in me and celebrating me. Lastly, I would like to thank Jeff Boyland, because truly
without him I would not be the player I am today. He is such an amazing coach and mentor,” she
said.
Mayli golfs and is on the track team. She also enjoys hunting and being outdoors with her family.
