When she first picked up a glove at four years old, she had no idea softball would shape her entire life. Now entering her senior year at Piedmont, Ashlyn Emmert says she’s not just playing for the wins, she’s playing with purpose.
Since the beginning, Emmert’s parents have played an important role in developing her work ethic, pushing her to stay focused and never settle for less. “My mom and dad push me to work hard,” she says. Their unconditional support and constant belief in her potential have given her confidence even during moments of doubt.
At Piedmont, where friends are family, she has found the perfect environment to thrive. Supported by a culture built on trust and accountability, Emmert speaks highly of those around her. “We have coaches who pour so much into us,” she shares. “My teammates are my sisters, and they keep me coming back every year.” The sense of belonging she feels has turned the field into her second home.
From learning reliability to building resilience, she has grown through the highs and lows of the game.
“Being a part of my team has taught me sportsmanship and how to support others,” she says. She has also learned how to lead by example, showing up with energy, encouragement, and the willingness to grow.
As part of the legacy she hopes to leave behind, she’s working to create a spirit of unity. “I want a tight-knit group that plays and works together,” Emmert explains. “We are working toward it by building trust.” She knows that the strongest teams are built on more than skill alone. They’re built on relationships, honesty, and a common goal.
With gentle reminders to herself, Emmert begins each game with a simple prayer. “I remind myself to play for something bigger than myself.” That mindset keeps her grounded, even in high-pressure moments. It allows her to focus on the deeper purpose behind every pitch, swing, and play.
“The thing I love most about softball is the friendships and family I’ve made.” From dugout humor to tough post-game talks, those moments have created lasting bonds.
For the younger teammates, Emmert says to remember why you first picked up a ball in the first place.
“Softball is just a game,” she shares. “And it’s meant to be fun.”
As for the future, Ashlyn Emmert will carry with her more than just experience. After graduation, Emmert plans to attend college, furthering her academic and athletic journey where she will carry forward a spirit full of gratitude, a voice of leadership, and a heart rooted in love for the game.
