Piedmont’s Brooke Collins
Piedmont High School senior Brooke Collins brings discipline, encouragement and a team-first mindset to the Wildcats’ varsity cross country program.
Collins began competing in cross country in sixth grade, initially viewing running as a way to prepare for another sport.
“I first started running cross country in sixth grade because I wanted to get in shape for basketball,” Collins said.
That decision grew into a lasting passion. Now entering her senior season, Collins is focused on contributing to Piedmont’s success while continuing to develop as a runner. She identifies work ethic and discipline as her strengths, and she is working to build more speed as the season approaches.
“My work ethic and discipline. I am working to improve my speed, and I hope to do my best this season,” Collins said.
The team environment has made the work enjoyable, even through demanding practices. Collins values the relationships she has formed with her teammates and the positive culture they create each day.
“I love how much fun we have as a team. All of the girls are so funny, and we like to hangout outside of practice. Everyone is so encouraging and friendly that we have a good time at practice even when it’s hard,” Collins said.
That shared energy has carried into the summer, where Collins has seen her teammates prepare with purpose for the upcoming campaign.
“Summer workouts are going great! Everyone is working hard for the upcoming season, and I am excited to see our work pay off,” Collins said.
Collins also draws inspiration from family, particularly her mother and older sister, Claire. Claire has been a familiar presence throughout Brooke’s running journey.
“My older sister Claire. She is my favorite running buddy, and we have ran thousands of miles together over the years. She is so fun and pushes me to be my best,” Collins said.
Outside of running, Collins is junior adviser for Piedmont’s FFA chapter. After graduation, she hopes to continue competing in cross country and track in college while exploring a future in the medical field.
